About the Event
White quartz is a recognisable feature to all of us - whether as boulders strewn about the landscape, as stones adorning the tops of walls/gateposts or as ornamental stone features within homes and gardens.
However, it is deemed to have special qualities and this evening's presentation will delve into the various meanings attributed to white quartz down through the centuries.
Let's explore the significance of the use of quartz pebbles at prehistoric burial sites and the use of boulders containing quartz veins in the construction of burial monuments, for example at Cashtal yn Ard, Maughold.
To what extent was white quartz imbued with special powers (perhaps magical) and healing properties for the human groups who utilised the mineral? Was there a colour symbolism and aesthetic appreciation attached to its use?
How much was its use at particular sites ceremonially motivated or ancestrally associated? What special attraction does white quartz hold for us today?
Anthony looks forward to you joining him on this fascinating journey of discovery!
