The Spring Equinox -when the hours of daylight and night are of equal length - is the perfect time to put the dark days of winter behind us and welcome with open arms the return of light and warmth to the Earth. The morning of yoga will comprise a sequence of asanas, breath-work, mindfulness practice and guided relaxation to connect with Nature and open up possibilities for new beginnings and new projects. It will be the perfect prelude to a delicious lunch and an afternoon at the Spa.  It is best suited to those with some previous experience of yoga – but beginners are also welcome.

In this morning of yoga, we will explore the sequence known as ‘Salute to the Sun’ or in Sanskrit ‘Surya Namaskara’. It is a vinyasana flow of 12 asanas (poses), ideally performed first thing in the morning, facing east, outdoors - but this is not always practical in our climate!  We will take a step-by-step approach, starting with a complete warm-up, followed by a gradual approach to the key poses. We will work towards synchronising the movements with the breath.  The sequence acts as a tonic for the entire system: all the front and back muscles are stretched and toned; the spine is kept flexible and strong.

At this time of year, our thoughts turn to the transition from autumn to winter, with its shorter days, longer nights, cooler temperatures and the urge to hibernate....

In terms of yoga, we need to keep moving to stoke our inner fire, balance Yin and Yang energies, and bring light and warmth into our lives. The morning will embrace all of the above, with a programme of asanas, pranayama, meditation and relaxation - leaving you energised and uplifted.

It is best suited to those with some previous experience of yoga – but beginners are also welcome.
